Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement
Last updated: January 2026
Scanhua is committed to making its content accessible to the widest possible audience, including readers with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments. This statement describes our current conformance with established accessibility standards, the limitations we are aware of, and the channels available for reporting accessibility issues.
1. Conformance target
We aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG 2.1 is the international standard for web accessibility maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is referenced by accessibility legislation in the EU, the UK, the United States, and many other jurisdictions.
Level AA is the conformance level recommended for most public-facing websites and is the level required by, among other instruments, the EU Web Accessibility Directive (2016/2102), the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882, applicable since June 2025), Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, and the UK Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations.
2. Current conformance status
As of the “Last updated” date on this page, scanhua.site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means the content largely conforms to the accessibility standard, but some parts may not fully conform, often because of legacy content, third-party embeds, or pending updates.
3. Accessibility features we have implemented
- Semantic HTML — pages use proper heading hierarchies (h1 through h6), landmark regions, and ARIA roles where appropriate to allow assistive technologies to navigate the structure.
- Keyboard navigation — the entire site is operable using a keyboard alone. Visible focus indicators are maintained on interactive elements.
- Skip links — a “skip to main content” link is available at the top of each page for screen-reader and keyboard users.
- Alt text on meaningful images — all editorial images have descriptive alt text. Decorative images carry an empty alt attribute so screen readers can ignore them.
- Color contrast — text and interactive elements meet the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and graphics).
- Resizable text — the layout supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Responsive design — the site adapts to different viewport sizes and orientations, supporting users on mobile devices and users with reduced screen real estate.
- No autoplaying media with sound — videos do not autoplay with sound; users have explicit control over playback.
- Form labels — all form fields (search, contact, comment) are clearly labeled and have associated error messages where applicable.
- Plain language — we write in clear, accessible English. Unusual technical or cultural terms (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) are linked to glossary entries.
4. Known limitations
We are transparent about the gaps in our current accessibility coverage. As of this writing:
- Older articles — some articles published in earlier years of the site contain images without optimal alt text. We are progressively backfilling these as we revisit older content; new articles are produced to current standards.
- Third-party advertisements — advertisements served through our advertising network are not under our direct control and may not always meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We have raised accessibility expectations with our ad partners and continue to monitor.
- Embedded videos — videos hosted on third-party platforms (YouTube, etc.) inherit the accessibility features of those platforms. Where we embed video, we provide a textual summary or transcript when one is available.
- Decorative SVG hero images — on a small number of static pages, the decorative SVG illustration at the top of the page does not include a text description. This is being remediated.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier not listed above, please tell us (see section 7).
5. Assistive technology compatibility
We test the site for compatibility with the following combinations:
- NVDA (latest stable) on Windows with Chrome and Firefox.
- VoiceOver on macOS with Safari and on iOS with Safari.
- TalkBack on Android with Chrome.
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking (sample testing for voice control compatibility).
- Browser native zoom and high-contrast modes on all major desktop browsers.
We do not test exhaustively against every assistive technology and version combination. If you use a specific configuration and encounter problems, please let us know.
6. Technical specifications
Scanhua relies on the following technologies for proper rendering:
- HTML5
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS3
- JavaScript (where present, the site is built to function meaningfully without it)
7. Reporting an accessibility issue
If you encounter content that is inaccessible to you, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports with the same priority as other content corrections.
Email: info [at] scanhua [punto] site with the subject line Accessibility issue: [URL or short description].
In your report, please include:
- The URL of the page where the problem occurred.
- A description of the barrier you encountered.
- The assistive technology, browser, and operating system you were using (where relevant).
- What you were trying to do at the time.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within three business days and to remediate the underlying issue within four weeks for substantive barriers, faster for minor fixes. Where remediation requires significant restructuring (third-party plugin replacement, for example), we will explain the timeline and offer an interim accommodation where possible.
8. Alternative formats
If a specific piece of content on Scanhua is not accessible to you in its current form, we are happy to provide it in an alternative format on request. Plain-text versions of articles, transcripts of any embedded video, or other accommodations can be supplied; please email the request to the address above.
9. Ongoing commitment
Accessibility is not a project with an end date. We treat it as an ongoing commitment that informs new feature development, content production, and quarterly review of the site’s existing material. Significant improvements to our accessibility posture are reflected in updates to this statement.
